Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi has said that the government has no plan to hike edible oil prices in the next 15 days.
The minister announced the decission at a press conference after a meeting with millers, refiners, wholesalers and importers of edible oil at his secretariat office in Dhaka on Wednesday.
The Ministry of Commerce will assess whether there is any credible reason to hike the prices after 15 days, he said.
The minister asked the refiners to reduce prices of the cooking oil if possible, he said.
Commerce ministry Secretary Tapan Kanti Ghosh, Additional Secretary AHM Safiquzzaman, Citigroup Director Biswajit Saha, TK Group’s Safiul Athar Taslim along with representatives of other edible oil companies attended today’s meeting.
The traders proposed to increase the price of this edible oil by Tk8 per litre. In that case, the price in the retail market would be Tk168/litre.
